Select Aquatics
|
 |
|
|
Select Aquatics breeds affordable,
quality, specialty tropical fish for
hobbyists and conservation
research. Most are not often
seen and many are endangered
or extinct in the wild. This site
is also a one stop place for
fishkeeping information on how best to
keep these fish.
If you are keeping an aquarium,
you have the opportunity to help
preserve species that are about to
go extinct in the wild. As well, due
to increased export restrictions,
many species are at risk of
disappearing from the hobby.
The fish offered here are hardy,
generally not difficult to care
for, and may depend on
hobbyists such as yourself to
maintain their availability. |

Ordering new species you've never
kept from someone you don't know

be scary. Some assurance that in
6 months the fish will still be doing
well would be ideal, particularly
since many of these fish are rare
or hard to obtain.
From your first email to inquire
about ordering until the moment
they arrive, we will keep in close
touch to answer any questions you
may have so that you know exactly
what you are getting, and precisely

Postage is never overcharged, and
extras are nearly always sent with

Efforts to downsize the number of species
here and build out those in greatest demand
is going well. Availability Videos are being
completed for each species, and the current
lineup can be seen
HERE. For 13 years I
offered 30 species that often sold out shortly
after being posted as available, and a year
might pass until they were available again
(as most species here breed seasonally).
Today there are now 10 species, and where
many were maintained and bred in 2-4
29 gallon talls, more tanks are now devoted
to each species, hopefully allowing for
greater availability into the future.
For example, with breeder tanks, fry and
grow out tanks, there are now 7 tanks
of A. toweri,
11 tanks of Z. tequilas.
With USPS overnight delivery suspended
or delayed over the holidays, in combination
with rougher handling, I will resume shipping
the second week of January, weather and
temperatures permitting.
Over 45 boxes of fish were shipped this fall,
and many thanks to each of you that are now
enjoying your new fish!
Over 250 Odessa Barbs
were shipped this fall,
and as those remaining here put on size, groups
of 2-4 Month Old Unsexed will be sold, until
offered in groups of two or three young pair
(+1 extra individual), which will be kept up
to date in the block above.
The Ataeniobious
toweri, the Blue Tailed
Goodeid, is available now in both groups of
six or nine 2-4 Month Old Unsexed, or
groups of two young pair (+1 extra individual)
The Ameca splendens
are doing well, and
available now in groups of six or nine 2-4
Month Old Unsexed.
The Alfaro cultratus,
the knife livebearer,
are doing well, and available now both in
groups of six or nine 2-4 Month Old
Unsexed, or young sexed pairs.
Species that are not ready to be shipped,
because they are sold as sexing out pairs,
and currently too young, include the
Zoogoneticus tequila,
Ilyodon furcidens
(The Trout Goodeid), and the
Xenotoca
doadrioi. Fry numbers have been good for
the tequilas and
furcidens, with slightly less
production from the
doadrioi.
Their Availability Videos will each be posted
as they are ready, starting later this spring.
The Limia islai and
the Limia Perugia
,
Boca de Cachon are each doing well, and
many were shipped this fall. I am building
them out to again offer groups of six or
nine 2-4 Month Old Unsexed.
The Longfin Green
Dragons are doing well,
and are a slower growing hybrid. They are
currently about an inch long, and sorting for
finnage and color are still ahead of them.
There will be 160 sold this year, and I will
and I will continue to post their progress
here, and announce here when their
Availability Video will be posted,
mid to late spring. A price has been set,
and they will be $270 for a group of 4+1
including shipping, and roughly half of that
will be the shipping cost.
The recently returned
Xiphophorus Montezuma
group of fry are now being sorted for the
best breeders going into next spring, and
their fry production will determine when
limited numbers of 2-4 Month Old Unsexed
will be offered. This is a fish again
disappearing from the hobby, and I will be
working to build them back out again, but it
will likely take up to a year. Nearly a
thousand were sold over the past 13 years,
and they should appear at
www.aquabid.com
until I again have them available.
Many of the rarer species here are quickly
disappearing from the hobby. Please
consider keeping and breeding each of these
species long term, and be sure to distribute
them to other responsible hobbyists.
I have rebuilt the
Synodontis lucipinnis
breeding area, including larger tanks,
and the higher contrast F1s born
here about two years ago are now old
enough to breed. I will start spawning
them over the next couple months.
It will take a few months before fish at
roughly 3/4" will be available, and they
will be posted above following an
Availability Video when they are ready
to be shipped.
The availability of any species will be
kept up-to-date on this homepage,
in the blocks above.
I generally respond to my emails within
24 hours, and do have a few spots still
available to come out to speak to your
local club in 2023. If you would like to
explore making this happen, please
email me at
selectaquatics@gmail.com,
and we can discuss it!

Mr. Sage provided me with the
best experience I could've asked for. The wonderful fish he
breeds are priced
very affordably, and are super high quality.
He always responded to our emails swiftly and was extremely
helpful with any questions and concerns we had.
His packaging of the fish was phenomenal, and all (even the
extras!) arrived across the country in excellent
condition!
They are beautiful, healthy, and active. it was incredibly
stress-free as I knew I could trust the process.
Despite a small delay due to the USPS, Greg quickly assured us
that the fish would be fine.
Mr.
Sage has a great reputation in the livebearer hobby, and I can
say he has totally lived up to that
reputation for me and I'm looking forward to ordering from him
again! I seriously can't recommend him
enough.
Thank you for all you do for the hobby, Mr. Sage!
Christina K. NY
First, off thank you for the beautiful fish. Every time I
receive a new species from you I am always surprised by
how much more beautiful they are in real life versus the picture. The
Alfaro cultratus you sent for example are far more
stunning than any picture I have ever seen of them. That includes Google
image searches.
Jay G., The
Woodlands, TX
Hi Greg,
The
Odessa barbs are here, in GREAT shape, and currently
'acclimatizing' in a 5 gallon bucket with my own
graduated drip system.
Thank
you very, VERY much for your attention and care and patience
with me throughout this process. I've been
receiving fish via express mail for 30 years but your packing is a whole
new universe from what I've ever experienced.
Thank you
again for the 'bonus' fish which I counted as 8 but my wife
insists is 9. She also could not believe the packing
or condition of the fish. Also, thank you for the
anticipated forwarding of the rebate check for the excess
shipping charge.
When everything stabilizes, I'll forward some pics.
Again this has been the best fish purchasing experience I've
ever had.
